We woke up Monday morning and found this right outside our back door.
Chloe and Olivia were the only ones willing to get out of bed and enjoy this amazing sight. We took a nice long watch on the beach.
I handed the girls the camera and they took a lot of these pictures.

This piece of coral was so pretty we took a picture of it on our way out and then Olivia accidentally kicked it and cut her toe on our way back.

After we roused the big kids we headed of to Laei Point. This is one of the prettiest places on the Island I think.

Usually rock erosion takes centuries. This hole was made in one day when a powerful tsunami punched right through the rock!

We headed up the coast and around the tip of the island to Goat Island. We are looking at it from Malaekahana Beach. I so badly wanted to wade out there but we had too many places to see.

They had to drag me away to this next beach but it was one of the places on Oahu where they film one of my favorite TV shows, LOST!

Braving the sea urchins and algae to check out the fantastic water.
This kid is smart and funny. He was alway spouting out facts and information on everything from Milk Runs to igneous rock and hot spots. When we were looking for beach glass he tells us that San Fransisco has the most beach glass in the world and that red is the rarest color and how much it was worth, where it comes from etc. He says he learns everything he knows from Discovery Channel, National Geographic etc. He does love science!

This sign inspired many more photos of unique and entertaining signs on our trip.
Rustin testing out the camera from the back seat. Whenever I would take pictures through the front window (especially if I was leaning out) he would holler, "Mom! Put the strap around your neck!!" He was on the ball!
After much debate and checking out other beaches I didn't photograph (I know, hard to believe) we decided that Shark's Cove looked like a great place to snorkel for the rest of the morning. Chloe and Dad are checking out the tide-pools. Right where they are standing is the place we found an octopus later (pictures and video below)!

This deeper water to the right of the pools is where Russ took the big kids snorkeling. It had some waves knocking them around a bit and they had a tough time getting out at the end. I applauded and cheered when I saw them all safely emerge onto the rocks with only a few scrapes on their legs!
This picture was taken UNDER WATER in the clear shallows! Can you believe the color of that urchin. We thought these were big and scary until we saw HUGE black ones on the big island a few days later.

A lady told Rustin she saw an OCTOPUS in the shallow clear water. Sure enough, there it was! Russ ran and grabbed the camera. It would totally change color, shape and texture. Here it looks bumpy and lighter, but when it swam it was DARK and SMOOTH! It happened in an instant. Two amazing videos below. Watch BOTH!!!
Here it is from one angle, swimming in a minute and then you get a close up of suction cups. Russ is kneeling above the water with the camera below the water so he has no way of knowing if he has it centered or not, just guessing.
This one you get an even better view of the octopus from a different angle though you also see hands and feet of fellow snorkelers.
Chloe and Olivia practicing their "model walk" on the way to Malaekahana Beach. I think they were inspired by the HUGE leaves they're using as fans.
